May 2018

Ladies Musical Club at The Frye

May 5, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
The Frye Art Museum, 704 Terry Avenue
Seattle,WA98104United States
+ Google Map

Beethoven Violin Sonata and Solo Piano Recital Gathering at the Seattle home of Ellen Bartlett Bacon in March of 1891, the original 22 women musicians decided to form a new musical entity dedicated to “developing the musical talent of its members, and stimulating musical interest in Seattle.” Thus, was Ladies Musical Club of Seattle (LMC) initiated. These founding members were mostly middle-class, married women who also happened to be trained musicians; the creation of LMC was a groundbreaking step in providing opportunities at a time when few women were able to pursue careers as professional musicians. Over a century later, LMC continues as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization comprised of approximately 150 women, still fostering classical music among its members and in the community through education, performance and awards. In the spirit of Charles and Emma Frye, who often hosted musical programs in their salon, the Frye Art Museum continues that tradition through its partnership with LMC. Every year from October to May, LMC offers monthly classical musical performance in the Museum’s auditorium. TICKETS Free tickets are available on a first come, first served basis, and may be picked up at the desk in the foyer outside the auditorium one hour prior…

Prof at The Crocodile

May 10, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
The Crocodile, 2200 Second Ave
+ Google Map

From the Prof peeps: As a songwriter, Prof is a tightrope walker. He balances on a fine line of duality between the parallels of inconceivable experiences and extraordinary fantasies. One song may be the memory of his arson father burning down his childhood home, while the next is about an evening involving 3 beautiful ladies, 2 bottles of whiskey and a llama. Factual or fictitious, there’s no end to the number of unique narratives, or deliveries, from this storyteller. Perhaps the hardships of his earlier life were the catalyst for the vividly imaginative artist he is today. Buy Tickets

Neumos, 925 E. Pike
+ Google Map

From Lucas Joyner: Joyner Lucas first captured national attention with the complex verbal gymnastics of 2014’s 'Backwords,' followed in 2015 by his debut mixtape, 'ALONG CAME JOYNER' and its extraordinary breakthrough single, 'Ross Capicchioni.' The track – and its provocative companion visual – chronicles the true story of a Detroit gang shooting, told from the perspectives of both the teenage victim and the shooter himself. Richard Buckner at Columbia City Theater

May 24, 2018 @ 8:00 pm
Columbia City Theater, 916 Rainier Ave S
+ Google Map

From Columbia City Theater: There are three kinds of American folk artist: those who sit, contented, on a back porch contemplating America’s landscape and ways; those for whom its landscape and ways are something to stand against or move boldly through; and those whose America is a shadowy, impressionistic place that moves inside of them. This is the area that the sombre-voiced Richard Buckner has been exploring since 1994. —Sylvie Simmons, The Guardian, 2004 TICKETS
