Seattle Symphony’s 10th Annual Celebrate Asia Concert

For the tenth year, Seattle Symphony offers a special Sunday matinee concert featuring music by famous Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Indian composers. Celebrate Asia 2018‘s program includes

  • Rhyme of Taigu by Zhou Long
  • Tibet Overture by Bochan Li
  • Finale from The Gate of the Moon (Sitar Concerto No 1) by Nishat Khan
  • Erhu Concert No. 1 “Capriccio for the Red Plum Blossom” by Huoyuan Yu
  • And a medley of Chinese movie songs by Xiaogu Zhu

DaYe Lin conducts members of Seattle Symphony and Seattle Chinese orchestra, with special musical accompanists Warren Chang (erhu) and Nishat Khan (sitar). Drag queen Aleksa Manila hosts the pre-concert entertainment, starting at 2:30pm and featuring:

  • Chinese dance by Huayin Performing Arts Group
  • Vietnamese dance by GDPT Lieu Quan of Co Lam Pagoda
  • and the Duoc Su Lion Dance Team

Post concert entertainment will feature Taiko drumming by CHIKIRI and The School of TAIKO and Bhangra/Bollywood dancing. It’s a truly unique event celebrating Seattle’s vibrant Asian communities and a perfect start to the Lunar New Year. Tickets start at $31. See the official website for details and tickets.
