PNB’s Outside/In 2019 at Seattle Center
June 14 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Last year, Pacific Northwest Ballet’s wonderful one-night-only showcase of new choreography, Next Step, got an exciting twist. The program was renamed Outside/In, reflecting a new dual program with free public performances in Seattle Center, followed by the debuts of new works inside McCaw Hall.
Personally, Next Step has long been one of my favorite annual events, as it gives budding choreographers within PNB the chance to create and present new works, which are then performed by members of the professional division at the Ballet’s school. The added benefit of Outside/In is that it incorporates other members of the dance community as well. The outside performances are presented in partnership with other dance companies, and feature new works from Dammiel Cruz, Christopher D’Ariano, Mark Haim, Eva Stone’s New Voices: Choreography and Process for Young Women in Dance students and Ron Gatsby. Onlookers can nosh from food trucks, get their pics taken in a complimentary photo booth, and grab PNB swag.
The performances inside the Brotman Auditorium at McCaw Hall begin at 7:30. This year’s debuts come from choreographers Nancy Casciano, Christopher D’Ariano, Steven Loch, Amanda Morgan, Sarah Pasch, and Calista Ruat.
