PCNW’s Chase the Light 2019, A 48-Hour Photoshoot
June 8 - June 9$20
Every year, in honor of the approaching summer solstice, Photographic Center Northwest celebrates the photographic medium with a photo shoot. For the first ten years, it was known as Long Shot, and invited the international community to submit as well. This year, the format has changed slightly, along with the name: Chase the Light encourages photographers from Washington state to get out their cameras (of any kind) and shoot, shoot, shoot for 48 hours. In addition, there will be three special events over the weekend: a Capitol Hill photowalk, an alternative process workshop, and a walking viaduct demolition tour. Read more.
Those who officially register with Chase the Light can submit up to five photos taken on June 8 or June 9. On that Monday, June 10, a panel of industry professionals one image from each participant to be featured in an online slideshow and printed at PCNW for the Chase The Light Pop-up Exhibition on June 15. (Note: Analog photographers have until June 11 to submit.)
After the pop-up exhibition, participants’ photos will appear in the Seattle debut of The Fence, an international traveling photography exhibition series. This extended, outdoor regional showcase is made in partnership with Friends of the Waterfront Seattle. Read more about The Fence in Seattle online.
In addition to being a fantastic early summer activity, Chase the Light is the primary summer fundraiser for Photographic Center Northwest. The suggested donation for registration is $20, but you can add $15 to receive a print of whichever photo is selected for the exhibit. All of the special events during Chase the Light are free with RSVP. Even if you aren’t officially registered, on social media, use the hashtags #chasethelight2019, #photographiccenternw and #pcnw to see what people are sharing.
