Global Rhythms: Summit in Seattle with Vijay Iyer, Howard Wiley, Ambrose Akinmusire and Tyshawn Sorey
March 2, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
$20From Cornish College of Arts:
Town Hall Seattle, Cornish College of the Arts, and Earshot Jazz are delighted to present a unique night of jazz as four powerhouses meet onstage and explore each other’s distinct styles in a bespoke collaboration. Vijay Iyer (piano)—the MacArthur Fellow and Grammy nominee known for his clever reworkings of iconic compositions and unexpected meter—is currently one of the leading voices in American art music. He’ll be joined by Ambrose Akinmusire on the trumpet (winner of the 2007 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Trumpet Competition), Tyshawn Sorey on drums and trombone (a Doris Duke Impact Award Winner), and Howard Wiley on saxophone and drums (a jazz traditionalist who has recorded and performed with Lauryn Hill). This is the first time this super-group of master jazz musicians have come together to treat us to a night of spectacular musical risk-taking and improvisation. Presented by Town Hall Seattle as part of the Arts & Culture and Global Rhythms series.
