At The Collective Runway Show at Fashion Week at The Bellevue Collection, there was high fashion on the runway and off, from head to toe (and some polka-dotted lips, too). Rather than a specific designer or trend series as in past years at Bellevue Fashion Week, this was a panoply of FW 19-20 looks styled by nine shops.
Though it wasn’t explicitly a trend showcase, certain trends naturally came to the fore. First, hosiery is back in a big way—pattered and colored tights, short socks worn with heels, booties and even sandals.
Bright colors prevailed, offering a lovely contrast to the dark florals and rich jewel tones we also saw. For example, Kate Spade’s models walked with red and purple leggings while Nordstrom paired vivid pink socks with metallic strappy high heel sandals. As for shoes, lug sole heeled booties and sleek sock booties made a splash along with lux patterns, like snakeskin.
Other accessories such as long scarfs got those bright colors, as well as animal prints like leopard, cheetah and crocodile. And the metallics weren’t limited to those strappy shoes. They shone in many forms, including pleated skirts, skinny button fly denim, and ribbed turtlenecks. Meanwhile, the outerwear had big, bold silhouettes with wide contrast belts, cuffs and collars in chic plaids and textured patterns. Faux fur continues to to be a favorite, elegant detail on puffer coats.
And how should you wear all these amazing things?
Style your plaid blazer with a wide contrasting belt. Wear your silver chunky heel sandals with colored silk ankle socks and add bright hosiery to complement a plaid mini skirt. Give those gorgeous traditional fall prints like plaids and dark florals a modern update by adding a bright yellow heel or a sapphire blue jacket.
One of the best things about a new season is a chance to be creative, and the fashion rule number one (make your own rules) still applies. Take a look at photos from the show for some stylish inspiration for a new season.
