While having a look at the Pantone Color of the Year for 2019, “Living Coral”, I got thinking about other “color of the year” picks. Each major interior paint company has their own color of the year, from Behr, to Dutch Boy, to Benjamin Moore. Unlike Pantone, the paint choices are announced months before the New Year. (After all, painting projects require a little more planning and work than a spontaneous wardrobe update.)

Behr Paint’s Color of The Year 2019 is “Blueprint”, a gorgeous deep blue/gray hue. Both Living Coral and Blueprint are complementary inspirations for our closets and homes for the year ahead. While “Living Coral” has the optimism of a tropical vacation, “Blueprint” is subdued and chic. We have some fresh ideas for incorporating these distinct but gorgeous hues into your life.

Living Coral

Ulal Johnson Loulou Babouche Flats

Shoes are showing a lot of personality these days, from bows and laces to logos, and of course, color. These Ulla Johnson Loulou Babouche Flat Mules come in the most gorgeous coral suede color with great details like silver grommets and laces with matching coral ribbon. Ladylike, but cool.

Lizzie Fortunato Earrings

If you want to wear this coral color literally, then look no further than the Lizzie Fortunato Napoli Earrings or Simple Reef Charm Necklace with turquoise, fresh water pearls and enamel coral. Wear either of these fun pieces with fresh white, denim, or a fun animal print. Coral can be an accent to the many hues of spring, or layered coral on coral.

The Christy Dawn Loretta Dress

This year sustainable fashion is taking a front seat, and it is about time. This Christy Dawn Loretta Dress is the perfect shade of living coral, and is a perfect mix of retro and modern. Even better, every piece from Christy Dawn is made by local artisans in Downtown Los Angeles. They even use deadstock fabric to minimize their environmental footprint. The company doesn’t churn out thousands of garments at a time, but sews a limited number of pieces, numbering every dress.

west elm Bright Ceramicist Vases

A statement piece doesn’t need to be confined to attire. Go bold with a coral velvet sofa that commands the room with timeless tuxedo design. The Robin Bruce Brette Sofa is sleek yet inviting with its tufted cushions and nailhead trim. Yes please.

Brighten up your living space on a smaller scale with a bud vase or two in various shades of coral. The west elm Bright Ceramicist Vases offer interesting shapes and colors, including a soft and brighter coral. Add a stem or two, and you have a chic little decor update.

Butter London Beauty

The beauty world is also in love with this wearable color, which looks flattering on all skin tones. Butter London introduced three Mini Size Nail Lacquers, as well as Living Coral Plush Rush Lip Gloss and a Living Coral Plush Rush Blush Stick. All of these can be found at Ulta.

Ultimately, Living Coral seems to represent the optimism that the world craves at the moment. Whether wearing coral shoes may not change the state of the union, it just might give you the lightness in your step to get you to where you want to be.

Blueprint

This distinctly deep hue is meant to work on walls, ceilings, trim or as an accent. Blueprint can stand on its own, or work with 2019’s palettes of monochromatic, earth tone, jewel tones or pastels. We took it to the next step by using it for all-around inspiration.

Accordion pleated skirts are so versatile that they have become a closet staple. That doesn’t mean they have to be boring, especially if your are wearing this gorgeous Bobby Blue Metallic one from A.L.C. Pair it with a jewel tone or black silky top or make it cozy with a boxy soft knit sweater. This one has a shimmer, giving it an edgy look that makes it (and you) really stand out.

CB2 Marta Dusty Cocktail Glass

Want to add a little bit of chic luster to your table settings? These blue CB2 Marta Dusty Cocktail Glasses add a bit of luster to whatever beverage you are serving. At your next soiree, mix your glassware on this cool round enamel tray from Target including tall flutes, short colored glass, and vintage chunky barware, then let you guests choose which glass suits their fancy. Cheers.

Barneys New York Bucket Bag

The end of season sales are mad fun right now, especially for scoring deals on things that can be worn year round. This Barneys New York Bucket Bag was originally $260 and now is down to $65, and the Blueprint blue color is spot on. Tuck this little number into your work bag, then swing it onto your arm as you head out on the town.

Tibi Easy Pull On Pants

A great alternative to basic denim, these Tibi slouchy pants have an easy elegant jogger style in a cool blue. The drawstrings in the back of the pants create a unique look that stands out. Dress them up with white booties like the ones featured above, or wear them in the summer with a flatform sandal, like this rag & bone Evin pair.

Anthropologie Velvet Lamp Shade

Throw shade in just the right way. This blue velvet lampshade from Anthropologie is a luxurious way to light up a room. The velvet adds interest and depth to any living space, and the unexpected color is gorgeous with muted tones or brights, like a sunny yellow.

No matter whose guide you follow, both Blueprint and Living Coral are flattering on everyone and every place. Adding a pop of color to your world is often an easy way to create a new feel for 2019.
