What are the trends and names speaking to us this week? VS PsychoPop is our peek at what’s coming and going in culture. For the week of January 20:

Gucci’s New Retro Sneaker

Designed with a thick sole and bulky construction, Gucci’s new sneaker has a retro influence in leather with a vintage Gucci logo inspired by prints from the 1980s.

Mallory Merk

Louisiana-born Mallory Merk is making waves in the music and modeling industry at the age of 17. Her music delivers sweet bliss and a refreshing style that you can easily vibe to. We highly recommend following Mallory’s next moves on Instagram, as she’s getting cooler at every step: @malmerk. Listen to her album, MM&HH on Spotify.

Motherpeace Tarot Deck

The creators of Motherpeace Tarot have departed from traditional (and often patriarchal) imagery of tarot, and have instead embraced the goddess spirit. The feminist emphasis is still balanced with the presence of several male figures in the deck. Motherpeace’s round cards and primitive artwork allow the reader to rely on intuition rather than the standard “black and white” meanings. Buy on Amazon

David Lynch Turns 72

Before, during and after his return to television last year with Twin Peaks (25 years later), director David Lynch received lots of love. Critics and commentators raved about how his original Twin Peaks series changed television forever. The Lynchian love-fest continues: The auteur just turned 72 on January 20.

Based on his spontaneous artistic style, he probably doesn’t even know what project he’s doing next—not exactly. However, we do know that he and fellow transcendental meditation enthusiast Bob Roth will be appearing for a special one-night only event at San Francisco’s Nourse Theatre on February 13. There are a few nosebleed seats still available if you want to see him there.
