Last Saturday, Actress and comedian Rebel Wilson celebrated the launch of her clothing line, Rebel Wilson X Angel at the Nordstrom Flagship store. The line was developed to fill a need for more edgy and modern options in the plus-size market, and offers everyday essentials and statement pieces for women in sizes 14-24.

Fans packed the floor at the store to meet Wilson, who noted that this was her first visit to Seattle. Wearing the Just Fan Me Denim Jacket and Lace Up Shoulder Fitted Tee from her line with a faux leather skirt, the star made a beautiful statement for her new line. The name “Rebel” was everywhere—embroidered on the back of the pink Signature Bomber Jacket worn by Rebel Wilson team members and Nordstrom staff. The exuberant star took countless selfies and photos with the long line of fans before jetting back to New York, where her next movie is being filmed.

Vanguard Seattle attended the press meet-and-greet with the star before she went out on the floor to charm the fans. Wilson has such an upbeat candor that when we started chatting, we spent the first minute of our five-minute interview just chatting it up.

Wilson told me that she’d like the fashion industry to become more inclusive and have more designers make pieces for the plus size market. “The average size for American women is 16 to 18,” she notes, and her position as a public figure gives her the opportunity to “give back” by pushing designers to think about creating for a larger array of body types and helping women “feel confident, no matter what their size.”

What would she like to see change to make beautiful and cool things more accessible to everyone? Wilson says what needs to change is the perception of what is beautiful.

That’s the bigger picture, but Wilson and her team are also listening directly to customers, who can provide instant feedback regarding fit and style through social media. With new designs and pieces coming every 6-8 weeks, the line will offer new opportunities and looks to keep fans happy and excited.

Finally, I asked her how she felt about the term, “plus size” and she told me that along with curvy and voluptuous, she really loves the description itself. She compared it to getting an A+ in school, adding that a plus sign means that there is just that much more great things about something. I give Rebel Wilson and her line Rebel Wilson X Angels an A+.
