The lineup at Noir City Seattle rarely disappoints, but this year’s collection really takes the cake. The fun starts this Thursday, February 16 at SIFF Cinema Egyptian and runs through the following Thursday, February 22. From SIFF:
SIFF and the Film Noir Foundation present the return of Noir City – once again, at the glorious Egyptian! This year’s festival, dubbed “The Big Knockover – Heists, Holdups, and Schemes Gone Awry”, features an astounding collection of classic and contemporary heist films. All of the films will, of course, be introduced by our guest Eddie Muller, the incomparable Czar of Noir and impresario of Noir City!
Noir City Seattle offers a perfect opportunity to take your knowledge of Noir cinema to the next level. Rarely will you have the opportunity to see some of these deeper cuts on the big screen.
The event kicks off on Thursday night with John Huston‘s 1950 classic, The Asphalt Jungle. On Friday, February 18, check out one of Stanley Kubrick‘s early masterpieces, The Killing (1956). For something (a little) more contemporary, Paul Schrader makes his directorial debut in Blue Collar (1978), playing February 20 in glorious 35mm. Finally, see the closing night film Victoria (2015) the ambitious thriller from Sebastian Schipper from Berlin shot in a single take.
