Is it just us, or is there the slightest hint of spring in the air? If you have been hibernating this winter, now might be a good time to hit the bars, even if it’s a school night. Rather than just drinking “the usual,” check out one the many interesting and cover-free bar events happening around town this Tuesday, January 24.

Rat City Brass at The Triple Door’s Musicquarium Lounge

Local octet Rat City Brass formed through a shared love of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. They’re a fun, energetic act for the The Triple Door‘s dark and romantic Musicquarium Lounge. As always, guests can enjoy drinks from a full bar and a menu of nibbles from Wild Ginger. 8pm to 11pm at The Triple Door (216 Union St).

Till Tonight at Speckled & Drake

Writing residency Till invites everyone to bring out the notebooks, laptops and journals upstairs at Speckled & Drake. It’s an open setting, so people are free to come and go, meet and drink and work as they please. Till Tonight is a monthly event and just one of many programs offered by Till to foster literary work and exchange. Learn more about Till online. 6pm to 9pm at Speckled & Drake (1355 E Olive Way).

Open Stage Classical Music Night at Cafe Racer

This week, Cafe Racer does something a little different for its ongoing Classical Music Night event series. No roster is set, so any soloists and ensembles who want to play some classical music live can take the stage. (The piano is at the ready and available for players.) It’s a great night for classical music audiences and a good opportunity for musicians who may want to hop on Racer’s roster for the coming year of programming. From 8pm to 9:30pm at Cafe Racer (5828 Roosevelt Way)

ScuttleButt 20th Anniversary Party at Brouwer’s Cafe

Local brewer ScuttleButt celebrates 20 years of brewing in 2017. To mark the occasion, they are launching a new Barleywine, which you can taste at their anniversary party at Brouwer’s. But there’s more… Scuttlebutt will be tapping three, special, barrel-aged editions of their Russian Imperial Stout, made in collaboration with Washington distillers: Oola Distilling, Woodinville Whiskey Company and Skip Rock Distilling. They’ll also be pouring their Transistor IPA. Come with friends and sample it all. Starting at 6pm at Brouwer’s (400 N 35th St).
