Starting this Friday, November 25 through November 27, fans of cinema are in for a dynamic lineup during a special fall presentation of the Langston Hughes African American Film Festival. From the Langston Hughes Institute:

The Langston Hughes African American Film Festival is one of the most beloved and established events in Seattle’s African American community. It is with great pride that LANGSTON takes on this event and continues to bring it to the Seattle arts scene. In appreciation of the LHAAFF tradition and its community supporters LANGSTON is proud to present a special fall edition of the festival.

Friday night’s festivities begin with an opening reception at 6pm, featuring food and libations catered by Brown Sugar Baking Company. At 7:30pm, catch a screening of director Matthew Cherry‘s second feature film, 9 Lives. Shot entirely on an iPhone 6, the film features a black Uber driver as he gives a series of poignant rides in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. A post-screening discussion with Cherry will follow.

Saturday’s matinee lineup includes several films, including The Fits. Directed by Anna Rose Holmer, this feature depicts a tomboy who switches from boxing to dancing—and the strange mysteries that follow.

The festival closes on Sunday with I Am Not Your Negro, a documentary with narrative elements by director Raoul Peck, and the experimental short Standing at the Scratch Line, directed by Julie Dash.

These are just a few of the films and events you can expect to see at the fall festival. For a complete list of films and highlights visit Langstonseattle.org. Or check out the tumblr for more great trailers like this:
