On the Boards recently commissioned this new work by Seattle artist and choreographer Ezra Dickinson, but it has been over a decade in the making: Psychic Radio Star is the culmination of many solo dance performances that Dickinson has created as gifts for his schizophrenic mother. According to On the Boards, the final result is “a mixture of childhood memories, mythologies, an extraordinary imagination, and Dickinson’s virtuoso talents in dance and visual art.”

The piece promises to be quite eclectic and personal. All the same, it will strike a chord with anyone who has dealt with mental health issues or our broken healthcare system. Dickinson hopes that the piece will spark open discussion about both. If you have pre-election blues or are experiencing fatigue from too much political theatre, we prescribe Psychic Radio Star.
