Seattle Design Festival 2016 is in its second and final week. There are plenty of ongoing programs, plus a full schedule of lectures and installations happening this week. Here are some highlights that are free and open to the public.

This interactive panel discussion at the Center for Architecture & Design illuminates how ideas for shared public spaces become reality. The panelists Lesley Bain, Eric Higbee, Karen Selander, Lisa Rutzick and Rachael Brister will offer practical tips and share case studies for planning and executing a design project. The event is free, but reservations are required. Reserve online.

Communal Activity: Share The City, presented by VIA architecture, 5:30pm to 7:30pm

In response to Seattle’s unprecedented growth spurt, VIA architecture has developed a game, Share The City. Participants are encouraged to think creatively about the city’s housing, zoning, and transportation issues and where it can best accommodate population growth. The hope is to generate ideas and facilitate discussion among participants from all walks. Read more.

[un]Restricted: 19th Annual Model Exhibit Reception at the Center for Architecture & Design, 6pm to 8pm

Seattle Architecture Foundation’s 19th Annual Architectural Model Exhibit, [un]Restricted, will highlight how local designers navigate environmental, material, social and economic challenges. The models on display reveal how emerging restrictions can be catalysts for innovation during the design process. If you miss the opening reception, you can see it during viewing hours at the Center for Architecture & Design, Tuesday – Friday, 10am-6pm and Saturday, 1-5pm.

There is so much more to see. Several of the programs this week are being co-presented with arts festival Black Box 3.0, which opened this past weekend. See my list of highlights from Black Box 3.0 as well.

If you missed the opening reception for Julie Conway‘s Luminaria interactive light installation, you can still see it this week at JW Architects. Contact Liz Frain to make an appointment: lf@jwaseattle.com.

Check out a full list of events on Design in Public’s official website, and don’t miss the SDF 2016 after-party on September 23, too (suggested $20 donation).
