This Tuesday, September 6 at 7pm, Elliott Bay Book Company in Capitol Hill will present a reading by journalist Margaret Wappler from her debut novel, Neon Green. Unnamed Press, the book’s publisher, describes the bizarre alternative history like so:
“It’s the summer of 1994 in suburban Chicago: Forrest Gump is still in theaters, teens are reeling from the recent death of Kurt Cobain, and you can enter a sweepstakes for a spaceship from Jupiter to land in your backyard. Welcome to Margaret Wappler’s slightly altered ’90s. Everything’s pretty much the way you remember it, except for the aliens.”
Wappler has written pop culture pieces for The Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone, The Believer and many more. She can be heard regularly on the podcast Pop Rocket, so she’s probably a pretty stellar reader.
