Donna Missal

With the novelty wearing off after day one, Saturday at Bumbershoot was all about the music. More specifically, 4:30-5pm was all about Donna Missal. In between songs, the vocalist shied away from the crowd, humbled by the flowers thrown at her feet. It was beyond charming, considering her breathtaking, powerhouse voice. The crowd seemed to walk away awed by what they’d just heard.

Jojo

Next up was JoJo, an old favorite of mine. Jojo seems to have settled comfortably into the R&B nature of her voice, from the sound of her new singles. You can hear its influence in her otherwise poppy sound. Still, she gave the people what they wanted, alternating new jams with old classics. JoJo belted out early hits like “Leave (Get Out)” and “Too Little Too Late” as her fellow ’90s children echoed her in joyful nostalgia.

Looking ahead to Sunday

The Sunday audience will see the return of old favorites, including Third Eye Blind, Billy Idol, and Death Cab for Cutie, as well as some new ones. Only three more hidden gems are left, so try to stop by the Manatee Commune, Maiah Manser, and Bishop Briggs shows. You won’t be disappointed. Needless to say, we have high hopes for day three.

Check out Tiffany Bri’s photography of day two below. And be sure to check back to VANGUARD tomorrow for day three coverage.
