SAM’s 2016 Betty Bowen Award Finalists Have Been Announced

The Betty Bowen Award honors a Northwest artist for their original, exceptional and compelling work. Administered by the Seattle Art Museum, The winner receives an unrestricted cash prize of $15,000. Plus, SAM will display a selection of his or her works.

Friends of Betty Bowen created the award in 1977, the year of her death. A Washington native, Betty Bowen was born in 1918. Bowen spent a lifetime in passionate support of Northwest artists. On August 25, The Betty Bowen Committee, chaired by Gary Glant, announced the five artists selected as finalists for this year’s award.

Albany, OR – Photographer

Dawn Cerny 
Seattle, WA – Printmaking, collage, sculpture and more

Mark Mitchell
Seattle, WA – Hand-sewn Textiles

Wendy Red Star
Portland, OR – Photography, sculpture, video, fiber arts, and performance art

Sadie Wechsler
Seattle, WA – Photography
