South Lake Union Block Party (SLUBP) is back for its 12th year and promises to be bigger and better than ever. On Friday, August 12, South Lake Union with will be jam-packed with food trucks, booths, and a beer garden provided by Brave Horse Tavern.

The free, all-ages celebration goes from 11am-11pm, providing ample time to dive into all of the food, art and music of SLUBP. The music kicks off at 4pm, featuring performances by Danny Newcomb & The Sugarmakers, Lemolo, The True Loves, Hibou, and Beat Connection. Beat Connection is coming in hot after the Friday release of their single “For the Record,” adding some fresh sounds to the headliners’ much anticipated set.

As always, South Lake Union Block Party will bring a fun, competitive spirit with all new installments their two highly anticipated contests. The School of Visual Concepts is back with their annual Steamroller Smackdown, where teams of top designers print posters using a steamroller. Visitors can let their creativity run wild right along with the pros at the letterpress poster-printing tent for $2 per poster. The Best Burger Grilling Competition is making a return as well. Five restaurants will be fighting for the coveted title of “Best Burger in SLU.” Attendees can get a taste of the action for $20, which will buy a sample of each burger in the running.

Proceeds from the Block Party go to organizations in South Lake Union that are dedicated to building and engaging the neighborhood. This year’s event will benefit the Cascade Playground Activation Committee, a non-profit organization that includes Cascade and South Lake Union neighborhood residents, small business owners, and community organizations. So stop by on Friday to celebrate one of Seattle’s many thriving neighborhoods with some good eats, drinks and fresh beats.
