This weekend, Sax-man Boney James will make his way to Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley. From July 8-10, James will put on five shows in support of his latest record, futuresoul. The release of his new album brought the jazz world ten original songs produced and written or co-written by James himself, as well as collaborations with notable songwriters such as Jairus Mozee and up-and-coming trumpet player, Marquis Hill. Appropriately described as, “retro music for the modern age,” futuresoul brings vintage soul music into the present.
James’s road to becoming a four-time Grammy nominee and multi-platinum selling artist started at a very young age. As a kid he was intrigued by the blending of genres in music of the mid ’70s, a technique he adopted for the dynamic style of jazz that he went on to create. He performed with many remarkable musicians, including The Isley Brothers and Bobby Caldwell before making his debut as a front-runner. His first album, Trust (1992) marked the start of Boney James’s solo career and the beginnings of the over 3 million records he has sold as a solo artist. James is truly a budding legend, so be sure to catch one his shows this weekend.
