June is Pride Month, and there are no shortage of club nights and parties in Seattle that are either officially or unofficially part of the Seattle Pride festivities. It’s fun to celebrate the advances in LGBT rights and create some solidarity as legal battles for equality under the law continue, but for all the visibility that these events and parades create, there are many groups that remain mostly invisible. One group in particular is the homeless youth population, which is disproportionately LGBT because of kids being forced from their homes. Seattle is in a state of emergency regarding homelessness, and homeless youth remain among the most vulnerable.

Divas Take The Hill is an annual party (an unofficial kick-off to Seattle Pride, now in its sixth year) sponsored by Team Diva Real Estate, and every year its roster of entertainers raise much-needed funds for local nonprofits. In recent years, the event has benefited Peace For the Streets by Kids from the Streets (PSKS), one of the larger organizations providing shelter, basic services and counsel for homeless youth. They have expanded in recent years as the homeless crisis in Seattle has grown, and every dollar counts.

On June 9, Divas Take The Hill returns to Velocity Dance Center in Capitol Hill, the same night as Capitol Hill Art Walk. VIP tickets position you at tables around the central stage, a prime view for a full night of drag and burlesque. Every dollar tipped to performers will go to PSKS. The same goes for all sales, including tickets, a raffle, a small silent auction and proceeds from the bar, which will be serving wine, beer, cider and a special cocktail.

Performers include the hosts Miss Kitty Baby and DonnaTella Howe, drag divas Sylvia O’Stayformore and The Lady B, burlesque star Jamie von Stratton, boylesque performers Emperoar Fabulous and James Darling and the drag king boi band Infinite Directions. Music will be provided by DJ Tony Burns.

Enjoy a full night of entertainment and support a vital cause. See you on the hill!
