Local clothing company Prairie Underground launched a collaborative artist series last year, and on Saturday, February 20 they present the work of their their featured artist, Megumi Shauna Arai. The reception will be held at Prairie Underground’s Georgetown headquarters from 5 PM to 9 PM.

The title of Arai’s latest artistic series is Escape Velocity and was taken in summer of 2015 in Shikoku, Japan. Arai traveled there with the help of the Prairie Underground Grant, to work in a traditional paper making studio (three centuries old).

From the event page:

Cross pollinating Prairie Underground’s underlying inspiration, the palette and textiles of the SS16 Collection with the materials collected, imagery shot, and traditional craft practices that inspired her, this new body of work explores the potentially opposing sometimes inherent relationship between escape and freedom.
