Martin Luther King Jr. Day is next week, and KEXP 90.3 FM marks the occasion with its 6th Annual Expansions MLK Unity Celebration on Sunday, January 17 at the Columbia City Theater (4916 Rainier Ave S). 2015 was a year fraught with protest and expanding dialogues around equity and justice in America—issues that have been simmering since before the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. 2016, being an election year, will probably accelerate these conversations on the national level, so it is an especially vital time to reflect on the legacy of the Civil Rights Era’s most recognizable figure. Expansions is presented by KEXP with partners Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank, Washington Bus and Skate Like A Girl.
