For the first time since its 1999 inception, the experts at Pantone Color Institute have introduced not one, but two colors, Rose Quartz and Serenity, to be the Pantone’s Color of The Year for 2016. According to Pantone, the blending of these two colors, a soft rose and baby blue, were chosen to reflect the desire for tranquility and calm in a chaotic world. “Joined together Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace,”says Leatrice Eiseman, Director of Pantone Color Institute.

A need for calm in turbulent times and blurring gender lines are also contributing reasons behind the color combination. The color pairing is being displayed in items for the home, packaging, media and fashion. The color duo may be complementary, but also pair beautifully with metallics and darker colors. Even if you don’t consider yourself fond of pastels, Rose Quartz and Serenity can give other colors a new dimension and fresh perspective. In particular, they both lend a sophisticated softness to mossy green and chocolate brown, and give warmth to white and cream and gray.
