As a fantastic precursor to Bellevue Fashion Week, the Bellevue Arts Museum will be opening their newest exhibition, Counter-Couture: Fashioning Identity in the American Counterculture this week, kicking off with a preview party on Thursday. Come celebrate a revival of 60s and 70s fashion and its non-conformist ideals.
The exhibit will delve into the innovative and efficient ways of creating fashion as a way to self-express that characterized movements in the 60s and 70s, especially those associated with the hippies. In terms of trends, the Counter-Couture is quite relevant this year, with a lot of Fall Fashion reaching back to the 60s and 70s, including block heels and flared jeans. The exhibit will include garments, jewelry, and accessories curated to specific themes and perspectives: Funk & Flask, Couture, Performance and Transcendence.
Attendees to the VIP party are encouraged to wear their best vintage attire. Counter-Couture: Fashioning Identity in the American Counterculture will be on display from September 4, 2015 through January 10, 2016.
