A “Happy Birthday” celebration is in order for the artist-run gallery SOIL!

SOIL was founded in 1995 and is thus celebrating 20 years this month. If you are not familiar with this fantastic gallery space, it is a non-profit cooperative established and operated by local Seattle artists. SOIL provides a venue for artists such as Jana Brevick, Pete Fleming, Susanna Bluhm, Allyce Wood and Ellen Ziegler (plus many more) to explore and push the limits of their art form. “SOIL exists as an alternative venue for artists to exhibit, develop, and advance their work, and is committed to exhibiting and celebrating art of diverse media and content.” After a few years of hopping around Seattle and using various locations to display work, the organization moved into the Tashiro Kaplan building in June 2004. SOIL has a long history of doing good in the Seattle arts community, and is thus worthy of the applause.

The 2015 Annual SOIL Auction will be held on March 29 at Greg Kucera Gallery (212 Third Avenue S). The festivities will begin at 1 pm and will feature food, drinks, party games, art and of course, an auction of works by artists and allies of the gallery. Tickets will cost $40 at the door, and $35 if wearing a birthday hat.

Those in birthday suits will not be permitted.
