Happy 2015! A Look with a Little Sparkle for New Year’s Eve

I have to admit that although I am a bit of a holiday fanatic, New Years Eve is sometimes not my favorite. “Amateur Night” my parents used to call it. And while I love a good party, there is something about this particular night that makes me crave a cozy evening in more than a crazy night out.

For years we have spent many a festive New Year’s Eve at my friend Kacy’s cabin in Winthrop, Washington, enjoying a “luge sledding run” in the snowy woods, sharing a giant fire and fondue with friends, and skiing and ice skating in the Methow Valley. I love the vintage fur hats that come out for this occasion, the winter fun, and drinking the good stuff early so that the first day of the New Year is spent with more of the same instead of a giant hangover. There are some advantages to being older and wiser.

That being said, this doesn’t mean I don’t like to rock a festive look on December 31. A gorgeous fur scarf, big statement necklace worn with a cozy mohair sweater, or a sequin scarf keep things merry and bright. Whether you are going to be doing a little apré ski or going black tie to ring in 2015, here are a few great ideas for adding some sparkle to your New Years attire.

The Zara Sequined Jacket seen at left is an example of a fabulous little piece that can match with just about anything. I have a similar jacket and my favorite way to wear it is with a simple black or white shirt and distressed jeans and heels. Topshop’s Sequin Tee has two-tone sequins and is slightly cropped. It would be fab with a high-waisted skirt. Or you can go all out—as I would—and pair it with the matching Topshop jogger style pants, which will keep your gorgeous look secretly comfy too.

Happy New Year

If you are headed out to ring in the New Years at the Space Needle or dashing from party to party, keep your noggin warm with this sparkling Sequin Knit Hat by alice + olivia and matching infinity scarf. This tan is a super-pretty neutral that I love pairing with both black and brilliant blue. And if you want to add some sparkle to your après ski attire, look no further than the Sorel Tivoli Glitter Boot that will keep you both chic and warm. The UGG Australia Lyla Sequin Beanie with a Fur Pom would sure be fabulous with the Sorels. The unconventional yet dressy vibe of the Whistles Asymmetrical Sequin Pleat Skirt would be so cool with a plain gray fitted top. Add the lovely J. Crew Spikey Cluster Pendant and the furry Kate Spade New York “Evening Belles” Feather Mimi Clutch for a bit of low-key glamour.

Kacy’s cabin in Winthrop was sold this year, much to the sadness of us all, but when one door closes another opens. We are headed back to a new wintery cabin in the Methow woods, because while the location may have changed, the friendships haven’t. Our families will still enjoy the snow and the bubbly together, remembering that it doesn’t matter where you are, only who you are with. Happy 2015.
