Squalor Harbor Shipyard Bag

A good unisex bag can be hard to find, but the nautical themed Shipyard Bag by Squalor Harbor fits the bill beautifully. Squalor Harbor is a recently launched collaboration between Kirsten Anderson of Roq La Rue Gallery and artist Derek Nobbs, who is no stranger to putting his artistic touch on fashion and sporting goods, from clothing to snowboards. Gallerist Kirsten Anderson and Nobbs have cultivated a little mythology around the world of Squalor Harbor, taking inspiration from maritime lore and the Pacific Northwest’s cloudy coastline.

The company is committed to producing its handmade goods in the USA with durable materials. The shipyard bag has been made in a limited batch with striped denim and dyed canvas on the outside and a twill lining, all 100 percent cotton. Rivets and grommets reinforced the pockets and handles, which are made of cotton rope with waxed thread whipping. It also comes with a charming Skull n’ Bones patch packaged separately, allowing the recipient to attach it if they so desire.

It’s a bag and a gift that looks ahead to spring and summer months—or beach and poolside getaways during winter. And if you happen to be giving such a getaway as a gift, consider stowing those airplane tickets in the bag’s interior pocket. It’s just another way that a good, stylish bag is a gift that keeps on giving.
