Entrepreneur and University of Washington senior Zoe Mesnik-Greene has taken a cause and helped give a gift that is priceless to hundreds of children all over the world—a smile. After being struck by the number of children in developing countries that suffer from a cleft palate and whose families cannot afford the simple life-changing surgery, Mesnik-Greene felt compelled to do something to help. It was a natural step for her to create a produce that relates to smiles, and lip products were the perfect product for this cause.
First sold door to door where Mesnik-Greene successfully raised thousands of dollars for cleft palate surgeries, now Lasting Smiles has teamed up with Nordstrom stores nationwide to debut the U.S. cosmetic industry’s first Fairtrade International (FLO) licensed brand. Check out the Nordstrom holiday gift pack here.
The Lasting Smiles lip balms come in four flavors: Passionfruit Mango, Peppermint Creme, Peach Blossom and Pure Pomegranate, plus an unscented Simply Moisture. These healthy lip balms are made from the organic ingredients and are the cosmetic industry’s first lip balm with a built-in social purpose. A portion of every Lasting Smiles purchase supports its nonprofit partner, Smile Train, to provide funds for cleft lip and palate surgeries. The surgeries benefit children in the countries whose farming communities provide the balm’s sustainable and ethically sourced organic ingredients. It comes full circle when these communities and their families are supported and assisted in helping themselves.
Looking for a great stocking stuffer? These little lip balms show that big ideas can come in small packages, and people like Zoe Mesnik-Greene prove every person can make a difference in the world. There is nothing more beautiful than doing some good, especially this time of year. Happy holidays.
