The wonderful thing about art is that everyone can take part in it. But most often wonder: HOW? We might not all be experts with prestigious art degrees—or even be able to draw a straight line—but we still can engage in a number of ways.

During the month of August, the Frye Art Museum handed the decision-making power to the public by letting them vote online to choose the pieces that will be displayed for their fall exhibit #SocialMedium. Individuals all over the world voted for their favorite art pieces across various social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and the Frye’s own website. The pieces that received the most love—well, “likes”—will be open to the public in just a week. It opens next Saturday, September 27 and will run through early January.

Rather than an art curator choosing the narrative, it will be your peers speaking to you through this selection of pieces. I am excited to see the result, and crossing my fingers the ones I voted will be there!

When: September 27 – January 4, 2015

Where: The Frye Art Museum (704 Terry Ave)

The Frye is always free admission!
