I love Valentines Day. While it’s often not considered cool to embrace this little holiday—be it for the cry of commercialism or schmaltz associated with it—I prefer to embrace its childlike sweetness. Chocolate cake, champagne, telling people that matter to you that you love them—what is not fabulous about that? Celebrating love in all its forms is a good day to me, and it makes dreary February just that much more bearable. Although Valentines Day may have passed, there is no reason why we can’t still feel the love. I have admired this Stella McCartney Resort 2014 dress with the cool black lace hearts and pockets since I spotted it on Gwyneth Paltrow last summer at a Goop garden party with Ms. McCartney herself. My Vogue A Trois for this week is a sweet little shift that is too fabulous to wait until spring to wear.
Black and white styling really doesn’t seem like a trend to me—more of a look that is chic in any season. These Commando Up All Night Opaque Thigh Highs look so cool with my favorite latest footwear from Steven Alan, the Oxford sling-back. The leather and mesh oxford is so fresh in a sling-back style and very versatile with or without socks—and they come in black or white. Add a pop of color with this J.Crew Collection Cashmere Cardigan in neon yellow—also completely on trend. The Rachael Ruddick Le Trop Bag in a crisp white with black contrasting edges is minimalist perfection. Don’t forget to glam up your nails with Essie’s yummy Licorice and add a foursome of Maison Martin Margiela gold-tone rings to one of your hands for a little something extra.
Not everyone is up to their eyeballs in snow and slush, so if you are lucky enough to live away from this weather or have an opportunity to escape it, then the Stella McCartney Lily metallic sandals are a perfect little pairing for a night out. It is also the great time to rock the orange lipstick trend that is all over the recent Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. This Maybelline Color Sensational in Electric Orange is beautiful on its own and was used at the DKNY runway show mixed with Maybelline’s Neon Red to create a unique orange lip that flatters everyone. I gave it a whirl and loved it! I kept the earrings simple and black and white to play off our happy dress. The Vince Camuto Clearview Stone Drop Earrings do the trick. And I love to peruse Ebay for vintage jewelry and accessories. Lucite handbags and bangles are among my favorites, and I thought this Lucite handcarved black and white floral bangle was a great find. Joanna Maxham’s Nite Cap Clutch with a contrasting strap and metal clasp is the kind of clutch you will use again and again.
Tall gladiator sandals have made an appearance again for Spring Summer 2014 and were shown places like designer Rebecca Minkoff’s runway show. These gladiator sandals by Stuart Weitzman are dressed-up but not dressy. Pink and corals are all over the place for spring as well, but the bright raspberry DVF clutch and Morgenthal Frederics sunnies hold their own with the bold graphic on the dresss. This Zadig & Voltaire Rock Butterfly Rose Gold Watch says it’s time for spring and is a great little addition to the pink tones. There is no need for a necklace, but a simple rose gold hoop works beautifully. As always, Stella McCartney’s modern approach to style does not disappoint, and her latest collection has a femininity that is fresh and innovative. Looking forward to warmer days ahead.
