This time of year there is a lot going on and it can be easy to let your holiday cheer loose a bit of its sparkle. We are at once reminded of the past, pressured by the present, and concerned for the future—particularly if you’re a bit of a Scrooge. Does all this merrymaking make one’s difficulties stand out just a bit more? Maybe. I miss my Mom, not just at Christmas, but every day…and my Christmas cards are on a UPS truck in Never-Never Land…and is it really time to look at high schools already for my daughter? Those are some of my realities of past, present and future. I prefer to deal with the holiday hoopla directly. It’s time to tell my people I love them, to call a friend I have lost touch with, take the time to care about the people that are important to me—and I am going to dress up, dammit, and go to holiday parties and lunches instead of hibernating, which is too easy to do. It’s time to get out and make some more memories. And what should you wear while you are out embracing life? Well, it just so happens that I can help with that.

I think that a fabulous skirt can flatter every figure. The only blue Christmas I want you to have involves this Albastru Skirt from Anthropologie in a gorgeous sapphire blue. It’s party perfect and so, my friend, shall you be. This skirt has a feminine quality that I always like to mess with. Adding edgier pieces to your look will bring out your inner rocker chick while still having a festive vibe. This Tibi V-Neck Leather Cami is so fabulous—where have you been all my life? Wear it underneath the little French maje “Dissert” Quilted Leather Jacket. And don’t get me started on how much I love these Valentino Rockstud leather pumps. Kenneth Jay Lane Round CZ Pave Spike Earrings add a little sparkle. For those of you who are a fan of costume jewelry like I am, Designer Kenneth Jay Lane may be best know for his three strand faux pearl necklace that Jackie Kennedy wore during her time as First Lady. His designs of beautiful costume jewelry remain relevant and cutting edge today. Finally, tuck your red lipstick in a little Tasha Chain Knot Clutch in a velvety cobalt blue.

One delicious pop of color deserves another. I love a gorgeous orange next to our blue skirt, and the Jimmy Choo Agnes patent leather pumps are stunning. The search for a perfect orange accessory always leads me to the timeless chic of Hermes. A stack of their enamel bracelets in gold and orange with the Alexander McQueen 3D Enamel Skull Bracelet is a match made in heaven. Michael Kors has a Shantung silk top with a gold stud neckline that means you can skip the necklace; it’s built into your beautiful top. Finally, a sexy shimmer to your lips too mirror the patent color of your pump can be found in this Nars Lip Gloss in Wonder.

One thing that everyone should own is a classic white shirt. J. Crew has taken this wardrobe essential and embellished it with crystal clusters that make is super glam. This Gucci Broadway evening bag is understated loveliness. I would pull your hair back in a messy bun and wear big sparkling crystal earrings like these Nadri Framed Chandelier Earrings to frame your face. Giuseppe Zanotti makes a Leopard Printed Calf Hair heel with a little blue suede cap toe that is the least boring shoe ever. Repeat after me, leopard is the new neutral….

As always, the choice is up to you. Sit on your sofa and watch reruns of Full House or grab the phone and call a friend for coffee or lunch. Go to the holiday party at work, and have fun. Pass on holiday greetings to the harried workers at the mall. Put on your bright red lipstick, and get out there and enjoy the season. Happiest of holidays to all of my fashionable friends.
