I have a strict rule about any sort of jumping ahead on holidays: No listening to Christmas carols before Thanksgiving, no decorating or hanging lights. It just seems doesn’t seem right. What I do admit to is planning ahead on my holiday outfits before the invites even hit our mailbox. It never hurts to think ahead, or as they like to say in the Boy Scouts, “Be prepared.”
In last week’s column I talked about thinking outside the box when it comes to dressing for festive events, and I have more great ideas for unique and beautiful holiday attire. I couldn’t be more enchanted with the 7 for All Mankind The Skinny in Sequin Floral. It is my Vogue a Trois for this week. Bring on the bling.
These jeans are definitely a party all by themselves, but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear them to a day event like a holiday luncheon or shopping with friends. Velvet flats were all over the runways for fall and I love the pointed toe and festive red of these Tabitha Simmons Alexa Velvet Flats. Alice + Olivia’s cheeky graphic sweater picks up a little of the red from your shoes without taking away from the sparkly pants. Don’t forget your coat while you are out and about in the brisk air. The Sam Edelman Moto Style Double Collar Coat works just right. The Zara fur shopper will help you keep yourself organized while you are out on the hunt for the perfect gift, or something for yourself—like a pair of Ray-Ban’s Clubmaster D-frame Mirrored Aluminum sunnies? And these Pamela Love Silver Serpent Hoop Earrings—they are just damn cool.
The sparkle of these fancy pants certainly stands out when you pair them with the sophisticated A.L.C. Satyra Top in black. Its high neck means you can skip the necklace and wear a couple of standout accessories instead. A major timepiece is always a sophisticated statement and it doesn’t get much more chic than the Cartier Tank Solo with a black croc band. And speaking of sophisticated, Jimmy Choo certainly has a corner on that. I am head over heels for the Black Patent Pumps with Silver Watersnake pumps. Keep your jewelry simple by wearing the Nadri double drop earrings in silver with crystals that pick up the gorgeous green of the Nanette Lepore Skyscape A-Line Wool Coat. Resist the temptation to be too “matchy” by adding the Ted Baker London Floral Print Crystal Bow Clutch to your ensemble.
If you haven’t heard of The Outnet, drop what you’re doing right now and check it out now. This is the ultimate website for designer discount shopping by the uber chic designer Net-A-Porter, and it is the perfect place to find amazing deals on the most coveted labels. I found this Alexander Wang Lace and Snake Pattern Sweater for $280—originally $700, a 60 percent savings. Layer it over the Topshop Satin V Cami in Silver and top it all off with this buttery soft Barbara Bui Zipper Detail Quilted Leather Jacket. A fur infinity scarf like this silver Jocelyn one and grey cableknit gloves by Christopher Fischer will keep you looking like a cozy snow bunny. All this soft grey and white is the perfect backdrop for this stunning Proenza Schouler Large Bicolor Lunch Bag Clutch. Be still my heart. Wear the Gee WaWa Emily Oxfords, because they are a super cool way to get around town.
Sequins in the daytime are a festive and fun way to show some style. Be not afraid. For evening, you can add some height with heels and show off the floral sequin pattern of the pants by wearing them with strong, modern pieces to create a look that can be both elegant and edgy.
