Shining Star

There is nothing better than adding a fresh perspective to one’s closet with what is new during a season—the trick is to know when to make an investment on a key piece and when to add some flash-in-the-pan fun. Both have their place in one’s closet, and keeping both can help make your wardrobe more innovative. Your hard-earned dollar can be spent easily on an “It bag,” the top trends, or the latest and greatest from collections of favorite brands and designers, but the real investments one should aspire to are pieces so adored you come to live in them.

Keeping this in mind, a beautiful dress that fits you well and has a timeless silhouette can translate from season to season. One designer who seems to do the perfect balance of edgy yet forever pieces is Isabel Marant. Her secondary line E’toile—French for “star”—has a sophisticated, bohemian feel at a friendlier price point than her namesake line. This week I have chosen her Prewitt Leaf-Print Georgette Dress as my Vogue a Trois. Its uneven hemline, subtle yet sexy shoulder slits and lovely contrasting georgette fabric means this dress is a keeper.

The long sleeves on the dress make it a great piece to transition into fall. Pairing it with short boots worn with bare legs is a great way to wear an early fall look. The Madewell Billie Boot in blue suede is a beautiful little boot that works perfectly with the luxurious Nancy Gonzalez Two Tone Crocodile Clutch. And while we are dreaming big, wear these Me&Ro Sterling Silver Fine Hoops with Garnet Beads. Boho gorgeous. And  I am all about saying it with sunglasses, no matter what the season. These Kenzo Cat Eye Glasses with sassy frames & blue lenses are full of fabulous personality.

Should you want to go out and about, I like the idea of throwing on a little leather jacket over this lovely dress. Black leather would be a bit harsh, but this buttery Barbara Bui Quilted Leather Jacket in grey is polished perfection. Fogal grey cotton-cashmere tights will keep your legs cozy as the weather cools off. Feeling a little fierce? The five-inch heels on this Fendi Austen Oxford Colorblock Pump will make certain you are above the crowd in more ways than one. Going out means you need a great handbag. Claire Vivier’s Grey Brocade Foldover Clutch has clean lines and subtle details that make it work. Finally, the Blue Chalcedony Teardrop Earrings are a nice little hint of the color of our Fendi heels.

The lovely shoulder cutout details on the dress are part of its sophisticated bohemian appeal, so covering it up for this next look is just not quite right. Adding a Humblechic Sparrow scarf is a nod to our coolest French girl in the world, Ms. Marant. And remember, it is okay to mix patterns. You want to look like you aren’t trying, not all matchy-match. I couldn’t leave out a pair of boots by Isabel Marant for this set because they are so coveted—and for good reason. Her eye for details and originality in style make her designs the ones that not just follow the trends but create them. The Scarlet Wedge is fabulous. Finishing the look is all in the details—gold hoops from Topshop and a beautiful double Ottoman Hands 21ct Gold Plated Double Stone Teardrop Ring, of Labradorite and Ruby are exquisite ones. The Chloe Marcie bag is a great crossbody bag and will keep you looking laid-back.

If you can’t decide about something, walk away for a day or two. If you can’t stop thinking about it, then you know it’s right. Sometimes you find something that you know you will have forever and sometimes you just want to live in the moment. A balance of the two of these can help you make your own perfect wardrobe.
