All Fired Up

There is nothing like a pop of the color red to heat up a fall wardrobe. This color can have an almost magical effect on not only your ensemble, but your mood as well. Red speaks of confidence, vibrancy and can be your warrior shield against the dreariness of wintertime. It has even been declared a “new neutral” because of its ability to be paired with almost any color beautifully.

I have been watching Jason Wu’s line Miss Wu with much interest since its debut at Nordstrom in January of 2013, where it has been available exclusively for its first year. The playful femininity and sophisticated, cool pieces have a refreshing originality to their design. Jason Wu’s first ready-to-wear collection was in 2007, and when Michelle Obama wore a gown he created to The Inaugural Ball in 2009 he came into view for the whole world to see. Since then he has not disappointed us with his stylish contemporary designs. Being a fan of Mr. Wu and of red, I have chosen the Miss Wu ‘Torre” Wool Blend Military Jacket in fabulous Red Couture for my Vogue a Trois this week.

The digital print on the silk crepe of the Mary Katrantzou Lake Dress is an almost ethereal graphic print that is perfect to peek out of the Torre Jacket. Because the print is so bold, a necklace may compete with it, but a pair of earrings would be perfect. The CC Skye Bolt Pin Earrings have a great shape and the gold metal is a subtle compliment to the gold chain details on Stella McCartney’s stellar Falabella Bag. Pull it all together with the Aquzzura Tango Leather and Suede T-bar pumps and a Gold and Amethyst Cocktail Ring that reflects the purple details in the graphic print of the dress.

The modern and feminine feel to the Miss Wu coat is perfect to play on for our next look. This season, I am in love with detailed leather gloves. Last year I didn’t buy the Brian Atwood for Target Long Leather Gloves and I am still mad at myself. I think they are so classic yet chic and bring any outfit up a notch. Wear the Kate Spade New York Good Point Studded Leather Gloves in Black with our ladylike coat or use them to add an element of cool to any outfit. And what is not to love about the whimsical dash of the Alice + Olivia Stacey Face Pump? It’s a much more exciting choice than a plain red shoe. This much fun deserves a perfect LBD (that’s Little Black Dress) that every woman should own in one style or another. I favor the Halston Heritage Ruffle Dress for a retro look with great details. The gorgeous Camellia Bib Necklace ups the wow factor for those of you that want just a little more going on.

Jason Wu’s coat is lovely paired with dresses, but what about denim? Absolutely. Dress down without losing your stylish edge when you pair your sassy coat with a pair of Rag and Bone Heritage Capri Jeans. I got totally fired up when I saw these Loeffler Randall Quinnie Gold and Black flats. The polka dot pattern follows the buttons of the coat and the color combo is feisty fun. The MM Couture by Miss Me Button Down sports a pretty floral print that is perfectly suited for the rest of the pieces. And don’t forget your sunnies. These Retro Vintage Sunglasses are perfect. Mini bags are all the rage this fall, and although many of the designer bags are a shrunken version of themselves, their price tags remain large. This Zara Messenger Mini Bag has big style and a small price tag—the perfect combo for following a trend of this type.

Jason Wu has taken his talents from the heights of fame as a fashion designer and brought them to collaboration with other companies, including the furniture designer Canvas, Jason Wu for Target and now a limited edition Jason Wu for Lancôme line which will be available at Nordstrom (and Bergdorf Goodman in NYC) beginning during New York Fashion Week.
