I have always thought it would be great to have one of the jobs where you got to name the colors of products—like calling things “Buttercream” and and “Pinot Noir” and “Thunder.” OPI nail polish is a company that brings color names to a whole new level. Whether it is “I’m Not Really A Waitress” or “Haven’t the Foggiest” and “Lincoln Park After Dark,” their color names are beyond clever. And it makes you want them—hello, marketing genius.
It was during research for this column that I became in a bit of a “purple haze” myself. I love all of the names for the color purple. Plum, oxblood, rosewood, tanzanite and burgundy have literally saturated many of the fall runways and these colors are all gorgeous with the blacks, greys and creamy neutrals that come with the cooler weather. In keeping with that theme, this week I have chosen to style the Iro “han” Biker Jacket in a gorgeous burgundy.
I love this jacket not only for its stunning color but also for its biker style that has become a classic in leather jackets. We should all own a black leather jacket of a timeless style, but branching out to include an of-the-moment color is wearable now and in the seasons ahead. Something this cool can even be tucked away for a year or two and revisited so you can fall in love all over again—a classic indeed.
Blue and black make one of my favorite combinations, but so do blue and burgundy. Wear your biker jacket with the Alice + Olivia Jillie Navy Puff Skirt and Marti Pleat Sleeve Collared Top for a little sassy and sweet combo. Certainly black boots are in order with this outfit, but choose them with a personality as fabulous as your own. I love these Christopher Kane Camo Patent Leather & Calf Hair Ankle Boots. They complement the feminine navy skirt and top with a little wink to the menswear trend. Wear black tights to keep a good flow to your ensemble. And don’t forget your sunnies. These Prada “Timeless Phantos” Sunglasses in violet work it just right.
The Iro jacket is a stunner for sure, but Jimmy Choo’s Tosca Python Knee Boots can keep up with the glamour. The fitted RAOUL Brocade Wool-blend Pencil Dress has a fitted silhouette that is minimalistic and chic so it marries well with our sassy boots. In keeping with our snake theme, Ileana Makri Black Diamond and Tsavorite Snake Pendant Necklace is one sexy serpent.
Vince is a brand that has been a staple in my closet for years. Their cozy knits and stylish pieces have a gorgeous appeal because they are both modern and have incredible fit. Wear their Cropped Leather Pants with these uber cool Giuseppe Zanotti Bordeaux Velvet Lace Ups with a gold metal toe. Jennifer Meyer’s Leaf Ring is the perfect little extra gold and the Helmut Lang”s Flesh Print Sleeveless Top adds a hip little conversation piece to finish your look.
Whether you are a burgundy girl or prefer the racier oxblood variation, the purple reign is prevalent this fall and into winter. A flattering range of these colors means you can layer your burgundies and violets or use a neutral as a complement to them. Purple is the perfect pop of color for fall.
