Birthdays and anniversaries are special times that call for celebration. So what do you do when you are a legendary fashion house whose iconic shoe just happens to be having a 35th anniversary of its own?
Salvatore Ferragamo is re-introducing and celebrating their famous Ferragamo Vara in a new and modern way in honor of its 35th anniversary. Through the sensational online and in-store celebration, anyone can customize a pair of Ferragamo Vara pumps or Varina flats to personalized perfection. Choose the color of the bow, the style of the body of the shoe and the metal of the disk (gold or silver) in the grosgrain ribbon center. You can even have your initials engraved if you like.
The brand’s online project “L’Icona” features actresses, models and the fashionable set in their own clothing, each wearing a pair of the iconic shoe that they themselves designed. Portrait photographer Claiborne Swanson Frank was the curator and art director for the project, which incorporates a short film and still photographs of a new generation of Ferragamo lovers.
I have chosen the Vara in New Bisque Patent for my pick to style this week. Until I can get my own custom pair on order, I think this is the perfect pair for summer dressing. The Marni Floral Miniskirt makes a statement with these pumps, and would be great with tights when the weather cools off. For now, pair it with a simple white silk tank under the Cropped Savannah Cardigan for a sassy little summer outfit.
I love the fit of both a skinny jean and a boyfriend jean, so when James Jean did a rock star combo of the two, I was psyched. This jean has such a great fit and the Neo Beau in the color Whiskey would be a fabulous way to show off the Vara pumps. Wear the Haute Hippie Long Vest in Cream over the Whistles Kari Animal Linen Tee to keep the look downtown. Don’t forget a cool bag: The Milliner Caviar Mini Bag from Henri Bendel gives the perfect pop of color and that has a wallet friendly price tag too. Hoorah!
The combination of blue and black is a favorite of mine as well. Putting them together doesn’t quite follow the “rules,” so to speak, which is right up my alley. The neutral Vara shoe is glam enough to get noticed, but also complements the rest of the ensemble. The Helmnut Lang Soft Shroud Button Down with leather trim lends an unexpected look to the cropped DSQUARED2 Pat Pants menswear trouser. Never one to fly under the radar, I would carry the Alexander McQueen Britannia Skull leather box clutch. There are a lot of copycats of this bag, but not one can hold a candle to the original. I still mourn the loss of this great designer.
Personalization in clothing and accessories is another avenue for those who love clothes and the art of dressing well because it celebrates originality and expression. I also think that it is going to become more and more available to the consumer in the future. As for now, I love the idea of rediscovering classics and bringing them to life for another generation to love and claim as their own.
