Summertime can bring out the freedom from not only heavy layers, but from the usual defined style that so many of us cocoon ourselves in—what we know we like and feel comfortable in. When the weather warms up, it is a great time to experiment with the more playful side of fashion, try something new and lighten up a little. This week we are going to have some fun with a trend that pops up in one form or another every few seasons: the western boot. Personally, I love a great classic western boot, but this year in particular with the introduction by designer Isabel Marant of her high heeled and studded Blackson boot, the western boot is as hot as its ever been.
While I love this style completely, it appears so does everyone else, and it is difficult to find these days. Luckily, I am also a fan of Isabel’s Caleen boot, with its studded, slouchy-yet-cool look, and it is my pick for this week’s piece styled three ways. The first look works for day to night with the Band of Outsiders Short Sleeve Dress, a pair of Juliet Roger turquoise rectangular earrings (a Seattle based jewelry designer), and the Belle Fleur enamel stone cuff by Kate Spade New York. Throw on a little cropped motorcycle jacket if it’s chilly. I fancy this Topshop Mirabelle biker jacket because of the cool details.
A great jean silhouette to show off this boot is a skinny boyfriend jean, like the J Brand 1214 Aidan in the color Ringer. You can rock the lace trend with this fun little Daisy Lace top from asos.com over a plain white or black tank. And I am all about mixing the high and the low, so investing in an amazing bag is always a great way to spend your money—the Stella McCartney Falabella Abstract Printed Linen Chain Clutch is gorgeous, versatile and worthy of its price tag.
The final look that I love includes the fantastic fit and look of the Rag & Bone The Legging Jean, a coated denim in the color shoreditch. Coated denim is one of my favorites for a dressier look that has a bit of rock and roll vibe to it. The Johnny Farah Twist Red Belt has studded leather details that are fantastic, so show off its great style by adding a silk tank that is partially tucked in in front, like this Ella Moss Tiki Tank. I am loving the SunaharA Malibu Red Stone Sonic Ring—a stack of silver rings with red stones. Remember, it’s all in the details when you put your look together.
The pieces I chose for the three looks all have elements that make them versatile enough to wear as I have styled them but they can be combined with each other to create a whole new look. And the beauty of the Isabel Marant’s boots is that they are an of-the-moment take on a classic boot, which can give any outfit you choose to wear them with an insta-glam update. Reboot your summer wardrobe with this fresh look that will take you from summer into fall.
