With Spring and Summer fashion in full swing in stores, online and just about everywhere, adding a fresh look to one’s wardrobe can sometimes seem overwhelming. I recently revamped my closet after a remodel, which gave me the opportunity to clear out things and rediscover some “old friends.” It was also an excellent time to figure out what garments would be good investments to ready my wardrobe for a new season. When the weather warms up, nothing says “spring” to me like a killer skirt. The long and short of it is: Skirts look great on everyone.

Whether one has fabulous pins or not, anyone can rock a skirt. Not so fired up about your legs? Choose a great maxi, or be brave and go for a high/low number that shows a bit of leg in the front, and keeps the back covered and long. It is a modern silhouette that is flattering and different. My personal favorite for this season is from KENZO, the Parisian-based brand that celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2010, and whose line has beautiful fabrics and confident, bold prints.

The KENZO Side Ruched Crepe Skirt (at both Kenzo.com or Nordstrom) is a cool and versatile piece that is perfect for my “three point turn” view—one piece, three ways. The drawstring on the side of this crepe skirt means you can change the look easily by changing the length of the skirt and how much ruching there is. Genius. Here are my three looks for this beautiful piece: For a daytime look, I love the Kenzo Print Silk Top (Nordstrom) with it because of the fab zig-zag print in front and solid back, which makes the skirt and top appear almost like a dress. Pair them with the Chloe Leather and Wood Wedge Sandals from the Heritage Collection and the coveted Marcie Leather Large Tote (both from Net-a-Porter.com). You don’t need any jewelry besides gold bangles and a pair of great gold hoops.

Want to give your skirt a bit of an edge? Add a simple white shirt instead, like the James Perse Soft Shell Shirt (Nordstrom) layered over a black fitted tank. Wear it with Plomo Vir Suede Open Booties and a Joomi Lim Metal-Luxe Double Row Spike Choker—which I think is both classy and hip (both from Shopbop). Finally, you can glam it up with the Haute Hippie Leopard Print Silk Shirt (Nordstrom), a pair of killer heels, like these sexy Tom Ford Metallic Python Platform Sandals (Bergdorf Goodman) and these gorgeous Kendra Scott Heather Hoop Pearlescent Earrings (Neiman Marcus). This crepe skirt would even be perfect with flat sandals and a linen shirt tied at the waist—the combinations are endless because its color and style are that versatile. Get the party started in your closet this spring with a great piece that can be styled into a new look every time you wear it.
